POWAY ---- An armed woman in a clear plastic mask held up a Poway bank Wednesday morning before disappearing into the brush along a creek bed, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
The robbery at the San Diego National Bank on Poway Road near Community Road was reported at 11:12 a.m., Lt. Hope Andrews said. Witnesses said the robber had a long-barreled gun and wore a blue-hooded sweat shirt and a clear mask, possibly a clown's mask, to hide her face, Andrews said.
After a teller complied with her demand for cash, the thief walked out and disappeared into the lush area along Penasquitos Canyon Creek behind businesses, Andrews said. No one was hurt in the robbery.
Deputies searched the area with the help of a dog and a helicopter, but could not find the thief, Andrews said.
Students at Valley Elementary School on Bowron Road were asked to stay indoors during the search.
