Posted: Oct 21, 2009 9:04 AM PDT Updated: Oct 21, 2009 2:40 PM PDT
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Some Bank of America credit card customers will be required to pay a new annual fee starting next year. Those who pay off their balance every month may not be immune.
Bank of America confirms it will charge a fee, anywhere from $29 to $99, to a small number of customers. The number makes up one-half of one percent of the accounts in the United States.
A B of A spokesperson says this is a test to assess the value customers place on their cards.....(????)
Bank of America is not the only credit card company to do this. Remember, in February, new rules go into place that will limit what fees banks can charge consumers.
Website www.credit.com offers some advice if you get charged an annual fee.
They suggest someone with strong credit call a bank supervisor to see if they will waive the fee.
However, they warn, if there is any weakness in your credit be careful about doing the above. You could draw attention to your account and open yourself to more fees.
