Gunshot Fired in Lynnwood Bank Robbery
LYNNWOOD - The FBI is investigating a bank robbery Thursday afternoon at a Lynnwood Bank of America branch.
Authorities say two men dressed in black and wearing masks robbed the bank at 196th and Hwy. 99. One of the suspects was carrying a gun. The pair hopped over the counter and robbed one teller and fired one shot as they left the bank. No one was was hurt in the robbery.
Officers in the area are still searching for the two suspects.
A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the pair.
What a great idea!.. Wonder if this could work with all the street gangs in the USA and maybe the Mexican Drug Cartels.

U.S. army in Afghanistan will be able to pay the Taliban fighters if they renounce violence against the government in Kabul. The funds are provided in the new defense budget for the year 2010 and President Barack Obama is expected to sign it on Wednesday.
Such payments are already in wide use in Iraq, where they contributed to calming of Sunni insurgents, but this is the first time they are officially used in Afghanistan.
Commanding emergency response program (CERP) provides funds for cleaning of the roads, digging wells and other humanitarian aid to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. A new law will approve CERP the use of funds for payment of Taliban wariors, President of the Senate Committee on Armed Power Carl Levin said on Tuesday.
By law, the Afghan fighters who renounce violence against the government in Kabul will be paid to “protect their towns and villages,” said Levin.
He pointed out that a similar Iraq program contributed to the fact that 90.000 Iraqis changed sides and abandoned rebellion. CERP was approved with 1.3 billion U.S. dollars for the year 2010.

Bank Teller Survival Tips 10-28-09
Stop and think a minute; while you're reading these robbery up-dates there is a stolen car parked by your bank entrance, backed in, no license plates, engine running, with 3 armed gangsters with masks on their laps, smoking crack checking out the bank security measures and waiting for the armored truck to leave, then it's 'Trick or Treat Time'!.
Valid Tips for Bank Tellers from www.bankersonline.org..... (last up-dated 2002)
During the Robbery
The two most important things to a financial institution are its employees and customers. No one should endanger his life or the lives of others in foolish acts of heroism to save money.
The following suggestions will help your employees during the robbery. Go over these techniques in your robbery training program.
During a robbery you should:
1. Stay calm. (It will be over in a few seconds.)
2. Do exactly as told by the robber, either by his/her words or actions. (Follow the instructions very carefully, but do not help the robber)
3. Give exactly the amount demanded - include bait money. (Do not give more, as this may cause the robber to get scared or mad, thinking you are tricking him)
4. Be polite, courteous and observant. (Remember what he says, does, where he stands and what he touches) Practice this procedure.
5. Form a good mental picture of the robber. Visually identify him or her. If there is more than one robber, try to concentrate on the one nearest you.
6. Utilize customer identification techniques. (Concentrate on his speech or mannerisms, etc.)
7. Presume that the robber has a weapon, and that it is real.
8. Retain evidence, such as a note.
9. Activate the alarm and camera when it is safe to do so.
10. Observe the direction of the escape, description of the get-away car, color of car, make of car, license number or plate
Now lets move on to 2010.....
(1)
Memorize your bank security policy and NEVER deviate from it : The bank needs a "fall-guy / patsy / dummy" to blame the robbery on, don't let it be you. When you (victim teller) is invited to "investigative interview" by Bank Corporate Security, after robbery took place, demand legal council or representative from your Bank Teller Union. Every thing you say is being video recorded. Law Enforcement different matter, co-operate fully without Company investigators sitting in; when you were hired you did NOT sign away your rights as a American Citizen. Employee / victims of crime have Right to request assistance for PTS from employer HR, OSHA, State and Federal Labor Boards, Workman Compensation and numerous Victim Rights Groups.
(2)
Never keep you purse, wallet, keys by your work station, in case of Take-Over Robber the Terrorist will go for your personal belongings, does the bank cover losses? (in writing).
(3)
Never wear your name badge out side the bank or have anything bank related visible in your vehicle. Are you forced to walk across the Mall parking lot after shift, un-escorted, while bank officers park next to entrance?

Treat your bank security guard with respect, you may need him/her sooner than you think.

Halloween masks all the rage for bank robbers
By: Freeman Klopott
Examiner Staff Writer
October 27, 2009
A bank robber in Loudoun County got into the Halloween spirit early when he slipped on a spooky mask, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash from tellers at a BB&T Bank, authorities said.
"This time of year Halloween masks are more prevalent in bank robberies," said Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell. Earlier this month, two masked men robbed a Wachovia bank in Alexandria and another in Burke. During the Alexandria robbery, one man dressed as a construction worker, wearing a yellow hard hat and an orange vest.
The latest masked caper took place around 9 a.m. Monday when the robber entered the bank on the 20920 block of Davenport Drive in Sterling, Troxell said. He was wearing the mask of a distorted man's face with large white teeth and had a walking cane with him that he left by the door and then picked up on his way out with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No one was injured in the robbery.
It was unclear whether the robber needed the cane to help him walk, Troxell said. The robber fled in an unknown direction.
Authorities said the robber was about 6 feet tall and was wearing all black. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at 703-777-0745.
Troxell said investigators are looking into the possibility that Monday's robbery in Loudoun is linked to the two earlier this month when the thieves wore masks.

3 robbers hold up Gardena bank
Three men robbed a Gardena bank at gunpoint Tuesday, possibly making off with thousands of dollars in cash.
Police searched the area around the First Bank and Trust at 1875 W. Redondo Beach Blvd., but were unable to find the robbers.
The holdup occurred just before 10 a.m., when the three men entered the bank in masks. Each carried a handgun.
They herded the employees to the vault and forced an employee to open it. They retrieved an undisclosed amount of cash and took off, police said.

Bank Manager's Morning prayer:
Please Dear Lord, I've worked for this bank 28 years, 14 hours a day, try to follow constant changes in company policy, saw my quarterly bonus cut 90%, lost my entire savings by being stockholder in this company and would take a bullet for my Regional Manager, But PLEASE don't let them Rob my Bank until I go to lunch then we can blame my Assistant Manager.
Amen

3 robbers hold up Gardena bank
Three men robbed a Gardena bank at gunpoint Tuesday, possibly making off with thousands of dollars in cash.
Police searched the area around the First Bank and Trust at 1875 W. Redondo Beach Blvd., but were unable to find the robbers.
The holdup occurred just before 10 a.m., when the three men entered the bank in masks. Each carried a handgun.
They herded the employees to the vault and forced an employee to open it. They retrieved an undisclosed amount of cash and took off, police said.
Some media reports indicated the take was $20,000. Police would not confirm the amount.

Bank Robber On Run Covered In Red After Dye Pack Explodes

Carrying a semi-automatic rifle with a huge ammo clip in the middle of a crowded street in Pacific Beach wasn’t enough to get a bank robbery suspect noticed, according to federal agents.
A bank robber armed with a rifle escaped out the side door of the Chase Bank at 4650 Mission Bay Drive Wednesday just after 9 a.m.
The man, described as 6' 1" with black sideburns and an ear stud in his right ear, carried the rifle into the bank, talked with one of the bank employees, showed the weapon and ordered the employee to the ground according to FBI agents.
At the teller station he demanded cash and started emptying the drawers. While the suspect was shoving money into his pocket, the dye pack exploded, police said. He then ran out of the bank.
“The weapon he was carrying is described as a shoulder weapon, a long rifle with a pistol grip, and a magazine that is described as a banana type magazine," said FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth.
After the robbery, employees followed procedure and put themselves inside the vault right after the robbery.
San Diego police officers searched the area around the bank for evidence after the robbery. A pool of dye was spotted on the ground near the bank by news crews.
One worker at a nearby mechanic shop thought all the activity was just a normal day in PB.
"I mean they rob this bank like every other month it seems like, it happens all the time," said Dean Anderson from Robert's Auto Service Mechanic. “And this time the guy had a shot gun supposedly, so we weren't gonna be running around out there looking for him."
The suspect was described as muscular with sunglasses, a long sleeved sweatshirt and a green cap. Anyone with information should contact the FBI at telephone number (858) 565-1255 or www.crimestoppers.com.

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Some Bank of America credit card customers will be required to pay a new annual fee starting next year. Those who pay off their balance every month may not be immune.
Bank of America confirms it will charge a fee, anywhere from $29 to $99, to a small number of customers. The number makes up one-half of one percent of the accounts in the United States.
A B of A spokesperson says this is a test to assess the value customers place on their cards.....(????)
Bank of America is not the only credit card company to do this. Remember, in February, new rules go into place that will limit what fees banks can charge consumers.
Website www.credit.com offers some advice if you get charged an annual fee.
They suggest someone with strong credit call a bank supervisor to see if they will waive the fee.
However, they warn, if there is any weakness in your credit be careful about doing the above. You could draw attention to your account and open yourself to more fees.

New technology like dye-stained money, digital surveillance cameras and access control doors make hold-ups more complicated, according to former FBI bank robbery expert William Rehder. "I think it gives the bandits more pause today," he said.
PHILADELPHIA. In June, a daring bank robber hit Citizens Bank at 20th and Market streets in broad daylight, grabbing headlines and widespread media coverage.
The lone suspect wasn't a gun-wielding bandit or a hostage-snatching thug, but allegedly 59-year-old Jerry Lee Stanton, an unarmed man wearing oversized sunglasses and holding a dirty pillowcase.
With a 33-percent increase so far this year in bank heists and a cast of not-your-run-of-the-mill bandits, has the stick-up become a push-over?
"It is easier to rob a bank because it’s not much of a secret that the banks have trained the tellers to give the robber some money and get him out of there," said Robert McCrie, a security expert who teaches at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.
With more banks emphasizing customer service – ditching armed guards for courtesy guards and eliminating bullet-proof barriers – branches are more attractive to criminals, McCrie said.
But others quickly disagree that heists have gotten easier.
"It’s not any easier this year than last year or 10 years ago," said J.J. Klaver, spokesman for the FBI.

The suspects, described as black men in their 20s were wearing dark colored hooded sweatshirts, were each armed with handguns when they robbed the Chase Bank, 1198 Via Verde in San Dimas at 11:37 a.m., said Lt. Roxanna Hart.

Lucky no one killed or injured, 3 Crip type Terrorists all armed waving guns around and driving get-a-way car stolen at gun point from south central LA day before. Where was the armed security guards that used to be assigned there after other armed take-over robberies? or do they just have neat security cameras taking photos of robbers pointing guns at innocent customers and employees?
Lack of money can NOT be excuse for lack of security, just read Chase Bank profit for last quarter OMG and $$ spent on executive bonus's. Appears customers and employees don't mind lying on floor with shoguns to their head.
So now Chase got it instead of their customers getting it from them. Funny how Chase doesn't have any security officers, even when they have been raising peoples' APR rates for no apparent reason other than making more money for themselves. You would think that they would use that to better their company and not the CEOs....wait forgot this is the new crooked Corporate America. Thankfully no one was injured and the I'm pretty sure in a few days there'll be another article of 3 men arrested by San Dimas sheriffs for an armed robbery that took place.

Bank heists are again on the rise
--
By NICOLE MARSHALL World Staff Writer
Published: 10/12/2009 2:22 AM
Last Modified: 10/12/2009 3:38 AM
After tapering off midyear, bank robberies are spiking again in Tulsa during a record-breaking year for heists.
There have been a total of 25 robberies and attempts this year, the most in recorded history.
In January alone, there were nine bank robberies. The trend subsided in the spring and summer after a cooperative effort between law officers and the banking industry and a heightened awareness among employees and others who reported suspicious activity.
However, since the first of August, there have been 10 robberies and attempts, showing a clear increase. But the reason for either spike this year is not clear, Sgt. Dave Walker said.
Walker does not think the reason for the increase can be explained simply by saying they are copycats, and added that there is no indication that the economy is to blame.
"It is not like these are good citizens who are out of work," Walker said. "Many of these people are ex-cons."
But Walker emphasized that of the 25 robberies this year, the majority, 15, are closed and someone has been arrested in connection with a heist, Walker said.
"It is not a good idea, and they are not getting away with it," Walker said.
He said that robberies of financial institutions are typically seasonal and pick up in November, December and January.
"Why it started in August is not clear. Most of the people who have been arrested said they needed the money," Walker said, adding that many bank robbery suspects have told police that they need the money for drugs.
Walker thinks that efforts by police and FBI agents to work closely with the banking industry helped raise awareness and led to bank robberies decreasing after the first of the year.
He said that they want banks to know that they will work with them to make suggestions to reduce their likelihood of being robbed.
Just at the end of September, one major bank in the Tulsa area took advantage of that opportunity and met with officers, he said.
With bank robberies increasing again, police are urging people to be more aware of suspicious vehicles and people around banks.
"We would much rather prevent a robbery than try and catch someone after it already happened," Walker said. "That's why we have a hot line, an e-mail address and other ways that people can reach us."
Walker encouraged people to call 911 if they see something suspicious around a bank.
Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts or his intentions to hit another bank is asked to call the Robbery Hotline at 527-0085. If you know the identity of the suspect, call Crime Stoppers, 596-COPS, or the FBI at 664-3300.
To contact the Robbery Unit by e-mail, the address is robbery@ci.tulsa.ok.us.

Bank near Long Grove robbed
By Joseph Ryan | Daily Herald Staffer

Buzz up!
A bank near Long Grove was robbed at gunpoint this morning with the offender fleeing the scene after handcuffing two employees, police say.
Investigators with the Lake County Sheriff 's Department and the FBI are searching for a male, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, who was wearing all black and a New York Yankees hat at the time of the stickup of the bank, National City.
The robber was hiding in the bushes near the bank at 3980 Route 22 when an employee approached the front door to open the facility for the day, says Lake County Sgt. Troy Oldham.
The robber then forced his way into the bank at about 8 a.m. by threatening the employee with a glock-style handgun, Oldham said.
"He told him he didn't want to kill anybody, he just wanted the money," Oldham said.
Two employees in the building were then tied up with plastic handcuffs and forced to sit on the floor as the lone robber made off with several thousand dollars in cash, Oldham said. The robbery was reported by a customer in the drive-through lanes who saw the employees tied up on the floor.
Police say the robber left the scene on foot.
In responding to the call of a robbery, one Lake County Sheriff's deputy was in a single-car crash that resulted in minor injuries.
Lake County Deputy Ashley Tomazal took evasive action when a car stopped in front of her squad car, said Sgt. Timothy Jonites. Tomazal lost control of the squad, which had its emergency lights on at the time, and went about 80 feet off Midlothian Road near Highland Avenue, he said.
Tomazal was being treated for minor injuries this morning at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Jonites said.

Fourth bank robbed in Victor Valley in less than two weeks

VICTORVILLE • In the fourth bank robbery in little more than one week, a man held up the Desert Community Bank on La Paz Drive in Victorville shortly after 10 a.m. Friday.
No one was hurt in the incident and the robber did make off with an undisclosed amount of money, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Victorville station officials said.
The white man in his 50s or 60s waited outside the bank with other customers until employees opened the doors for the business day, Karen Hunt, spokeswoman for the Victorville station said.
The robber — wearing dark sweats, a backpack and a fedora-style hat — handed a note to the teller demanding money.
“While no weapon was seen, he did allude to using some sort of force if the teller did not comply,” Hunt said.
After receiving money, the robber then exited the bank, jumped on his dark-colored bicycle and fled.
Officials found a backpack with the dark sweats and a zip-up sweatshirt in a laundromat bathroom a short distance away. The bandit’s bicycle was also recovered.
Friday’s heist was the fourth local bank robbery in little more than a week.
• On Oct. 5 a robber held up the US Bank on Seventh Street at Desert Knoll Drive in Victorville
• On Sept. 1, four robbers ordered customers to the floor and held up the Wachovia Bank branch on Hesperia Road in Victorville
• On Sept. 1, a man held up the Bank of America branch on Highway 18 and Navajo Road in Apple Valley.

Just before 11 a.m. Saturday, two black male suspects wearing ski masks and gloves entered the bank at 1784 East Silver Star Rd. with a hostage. Both men carried weapons – one a rifle, the other a handgun. They dragged a customer who was on his way out of the bank back into the bank to prevent him from calling police.
Employees told Ocoee police the robbers pointed their guns at a bank employee and demanded customers inside get down on the floor.
Police said the suspects got away with about $1,000 and fled in a red pickup truck. Both suspects are described as black males of medium build, between 5’5 and 5’7. One wore a dark shirt, blue jean shorts, black sneakers and carried a silver handgun. The other wore a white T-shirt, dark blue jeans, tan desert military boots and carried an automatic rifle.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Ocoee Police Department at 407-905-3160 or Crimeline at 407-423-TIPS.

Law enforcement officials are searching for a Chrysler Sebring, possibly blue in color, thought to have been involved in a bank robbery in Spalding County this morning.
A gun battle erupted during the robbery and the driver/robber may have suffered a gunshot wound. Reports indicate two shots were fired at one of the robbers who may have been wearing body armor.
The bank was the FNB branch near Roses in Griffin, across from the Griffin airport.
The initial lookout is for two black males in a dark blue or black Sebring or Stratus. They were last seen near the Pike-Spalding county line and the search was concentrated for a time in the Carver Rd. area. It involved at least one helicopter and numerous ground units.
According to a press release from the Griffin Police Department, the masked robber entered the bank just after 10 a.m. and ordered employees to fill a bag with money. He pointed a handgun at a employee and a gun battle ensued. No one in the bank was hurt.
The suspect is described as a six foot tall black male, weighing 200-250 pounds. He wore black and red gloves, black pants, a black hooded jacket and a black ski mask.
The bank expects to open for business Friday.

Bankers oppose ATM safety bill
By State House News Service
Thu Oct 01, 2009, 08:42 AM EDT
Belmont, Mass. - An association of Massachusetts bankers on Wednesday urged lawmakers to reject a bill aimed at ensuring safety at afterhours ATMs. “Our opposition is not against safety, it’s against the impact this legislation would have,” said David Floreen, senior vice president of the Massachusetts Bankers Association, who said the proposal would “set up rather strict, and we believe, restrictive” requirements on banks. The bill, filed by Sen. Brian Joyce (D-Milton), would require ATMs to be well-lit and affixed with security cameras. The bill would also require that all ATMs be enclosed in locked facilities, accessible only to customers with ATM cards, and ATMs located inside normally unlocked buildings have at least one security guard stationed nearby. Floreen told the News Service that the bill has been refiled since the 1990s, when a spate of ATM robberies in New York City prompted safety concerns. Today, however, “from what we know from both law enforcement and from our own bank security people, there are very few reported incidences of attempted robbery or robberies at ATM machines,” Floreen said. The bill “has a very prescriptive series of requirements – no tinted glass, all kinds of mirrors, deadbolt locks, mandatory 911 buttons,” he said. Eliminating tinted glass, he said, turns an enclosed ATM into “an oven.” Requiring emergency 911 buttons leaves ATMs susceptible to pranksters, he said, adding that police in some instances have requested that such buttons be removed. AND Banking Cartels in New York City still DEFY Police and Mayor re; Up-Grading what little security (cameras) they had in place past 30 years.... see prior postings.

POWAY ---- An armed woman in a clear plastic mask held up a Poway bank Wednesday morning before disappearing into the brush along a creek bed, a sheriff's lieutenant said.
The robbery at the San Diego National Bank on Poway Road near Community Road was reported at 11:12 a.m., Lt. Hope Andrews said. Witnesses said the robber had a long-barreled gun and wore a blue-hooded sweat shirt and a clear mask, possibly a clown's mask, to hide her face, Andrews said.
After a teller complied with her demand for cash, the thief walked out and disappeared into the lush area along Penasquitos Canyon Creek behind businesses, Andrews said. No one was hurt in the robbery.
Deputies searched the area with the help of a dog and a helicopter, but could not find the thief, Andrews said.
Students at Valley Elementary School on Bowron Road were asked to stay indoors during the search.

POWAY: Bank robber eludes police
North County Times | Posted: Wednesday, September 30, 2009 3:05 pm | 1
