BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A search is on for the would be robber who put a gun to a woman's head on Friday inside a Buffalo bank.
The whole ordeal has left the mother of three shaken and angry at the gunman and bank employees.
It happened suddenly at the Bank of America branch at Main and Fillmore.
A mother of three, who had just made a mortgage payment found herself confronted by a gunman and two others.
She talked with News 4 about the ordeal.
"They put the gun to my head and they said they were gonna kill me if they didn't give them any money," she exclaimed.
She told News 4 the bank employees did not respond.
"The bank tellers, I don't know if they hid under the registers or they went behind them, but they left. They left me standing there with a gun to my head and I feel that they jeopardized my life," she also explained.
She also said there was no security guard on duty and that she began having an asthma attack.
The three masked men, she said, realizing they weren't going to get anything, fled on foot.
Her father explained, "I'm very angry with the bank, the way they treated her when the robbery occurred. So I'm very angry at them."
"All the tellers ran, and she was left there. They (the robbers) pushed her out the way and she started having an attack," the victim's sister said.
Her mother remarked, "When I got there, she was in the paramedics truck. They were giving her oxygen because she has asthma really bad."
No one from the bank would talk.
Other banks in our area have recently been hit the same way, by three men wearing masks.
Buffalo Police believe this robbery attempt may be related to at least two recent bank robberies in the area.
Buffalo Police Spokesman, Mike DeGeorge said, "The one that occurred recently in Cheektowaga and that I think the one that occurred on the Key bank on Bailey Avenue, a few weeks back."
Buffalo Police did find what they believe to be a stolen car near the Bank of America branch, a car which may be related to the most recent incident.
The Bank of America will not comment on the victim's concerns because of the on going investigation, but a spokesman told News 4 that there are security measures in place....... AS IS THE AMERICAN FLAG SOME PLACE IN THE WORLD.
YOU EVER WONDER HOW MUCH SECURITY IS IN PLACE 24-7 TO PROTECT BOA EXECUTIVES AT THEIR CORPORATE OFFICES AND HOW MANY ACTUALLY SET FOOT IN THEIR OWN BANK?.

The number of bank robberies has risen this year in Colorado, but investigators are at a loss to explain exactly what makes the statistics rise or fall.
In all of 2008, 150 bank robberies occurred in Colorado. Through Thursday, 158 banks have been hit in the state in 2009, said FBI special agent Kathleen Wright.
"Bank robbery statistics fluctuate depending on the area and time of year, and there really is no rhyme or reason or one factor that necessarily causes that," Wright said.
One of the most frequent motives for bank robbery is to fuel a drug habit.
"I would have to say more often than not, someone who has been arrested for a bank robbery will say they were robbing the bank to get money to buy drugs," Wright said. "But that is not the only motive; it's a common motive."
Most bank robberies occur at banks separated from shopping centers or other high-traffic areas. They are less likely to occur at banks inside grocery stores and strip malls.
"Each bank robbery is different," she said, "and they usually get solved quickly if we have a good response from the bank where they have notified law enforcement quickly and we get to the area in a timely manner."

Young man wearing ski mask robs bank
By Susan Shroder

SAN DIEGO — A young man with a dark ski mask covering the lower half of his face robbed a teller yesterday at Chase Bank in Rancho Bernardo.
When the robber headed toward an open teller window at the bank on Bernardo Center Drive near Bernardo Plaza Court, an employee asked him to remove the mask, FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth said.
The robber ignored the request and showed the teller a silver-colored semi-automatic pistol.
He threw a Ziploc-type bag on the counter and told the teller to put money inside. He then ran out.
The robber was described as white, about 20 years old and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build. He wore a gray, hooded sweatshirt and white sneakers, dark pants and gloves. Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at (858) 565-1255. —S.S.

Report: Police officer, suspects shot following armed robbery
WESTMINSTER, Colo. - Gunfire broke out during a police chase following an armed robbery in north metro Denver Thursday. Initial reports said an officer was shot and one suspect was killed as a result of an exchange of gunfire following an attempted bank robbery.
Reports said the attempted robbery happened at First Bank at 104th Ave. and Federal Blvd. in Federal Heights. Witnesses said police were following a vehicle that was driving erratically, and gunfire was exchanged in the vicinity of 120th Ave. and Federal in Westminster. That's where at least one officer was injured and the suspects were shot.
St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver confirmed two shooting victims from this incident were brought to that facility.
Reports said more than two dozen officers responded to the scenes. Roads in both busy areas were closed as the investigation proceeded.

Officers arrived and surrounded the credit union at about 7:20 a.m. The two men then apparently tried to run away but police caught and arrested them.

DENVER - Police arrested two suspects who they say tried to rob a credit union early Thursday morning.
Reports said the manager of West Denver Community Credit Union arrived for work before 7:00 a.m. at 3299 W. Alameda Ave.
Police on the scene said she started entering an access code when a man with a gun approached her, and said he was going to rob the credit union.
Officers said she resisted and ran toward a bus bunch for help from a man who was there, but the Denver Post reports that he pulled a gun on her, too. Police said he was an accomplice.
But when the manager's first code was interrupted, a distress call was sent to a security company automatically. Police told the Post when the manage was forced to enter a code at gunpoint, she used a distress code.
People on West Alameda saw what was happening, and called 911. Police arrived quickly, surrounded the building, and captured the suspects.

HENDERSON, Nv -- Henderson police officers and the FBI have arrested five men after a failed bank robbery.
Police say the men attempted to rob the Wells Fargo Bank on Sunset Road and Stephanie Street. The men entered the bank, showed a fake search warrant to the bank manager and demanded all the money from the vault.
"While inside the bank, they presented the bank manager with what looked like to be a federal search warrant that demanded that the bank's money seized," said FBI Special Agent Joseph Dickey.
The manager refused and was subsequently handcuffed by the suspects and led out of the bank.
Once outside, the manager explained the process of opening to the vault to the suspects and they allowed him back in the bank. The manager explained that he had to call his security manager in order to open the vault. He was allowed to make the phone call and the security manager alerted police.
"This is unique. I've talked to a lot of agents who have been here a lot of years, never heard of anybody concocting a fake federal search warrant attempting to get money from a bank," said Agent Dickey.
Henderson officers arrested the men as they left the bank. The FBI has since taken over the case.
The five men arrested -- 39-year-old Eric Griffin of Henderson; 25-year-old Jonathan Miranda-Brewster of Orange County, Calif.; 24-year-old Jonathan Gray of Buena Park, Calif.; 24-year-old Brady Beach of El Toro, Calif.; and 30-year-old Ryan Williams of Fullerton, Calif. -- have been charged with bank robbery and appeared in federal court at 3:00 p.m. Monday.

It's like something you would see in the movies. However, the two bank robberies this month were very real and had the potential for deadly results.
The first happened on November 5th at the Key Bank on Bailey Avenue in Buffalo. Surveillance photos show the armed men wearing hoodies and bandanas ordering customers to the floor. One photo shows a gunman apparently aiming his weapon at a teller.
The second robbery happened November 13th at the HSBC bank on Union Road in Cheektowaga. Photos show the bandits jumping over the counter to grab cash. Other photos show customers hovering on the floor.
In both cases, the suspects are described as three black men, most likely in their early 20's.
It's not known how the bandits got away after the Buffalo robbery. In Cheektowaga, they were seen driving away in a red Liberty cab, which was later impounded.
No one was injured during either of the bank robberies. Anyone with information is asked to call Cheektowaga Police at 686-3505.

Customers and staff at the branch of the Wells Fargo Bank at 1901 W. William Cannon Drive received an unpleasant surprise this morning when an armed man entered the bank at 10:15 am. After ordering a clerk to put other people's money inside an orange bag he was carrying, the robber swiftly exited with his loot.
Although the first phase of his crime was successful, the next part proved problematic, and the alleged robber had less than an hour to enjoy the fruits of his morning's labor. Two witnesses followed him out of the bank and began following him down Cannon Drive, at which point the robber opened fire, failing to hit any of his targets.
Accounts vary as to whether the suspect then fled on foot, or by car. Either way, lacking an effective exit strategy, he was in police courtesy by 11:30am.
“The actions of witnesses and the quick response of officers to secure the perimeter of the robbery scene, made it possible for an arrest,” said Corporal Scott Perry, a spokesman for the Austin Police Department.

Easy question: Crip + Crackhouse = Bank Robbery.

Any statistical information furnished in this booklet is subject to change upon the investigation of bank robbery incidents which occurred during the second quarter of 2009.
The BCS provides a nationwide view of bank robbery crimes based on statistics contributed by FBI field offices responding to bank robberies or otherwise gathered when provided to the FBI from local and state law enforcement.
Statistics were recorded as of 07/23/2009, at FBI Headquarters.
NOTE: Not all bank robberies are reported to the FBI, and therefore BCS is not a complete statistical compilation of all bank robberies that occur in the United States.

U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said that the judge ordered Michael A. Powell, 40, to pay approximately $112,000 in restitution and to serve 5 years of supervised release upon the completion of his prison term.
During the trial, the jury heard the testimony of government witnesses and viewed evidence
regarding the armed robberies of the PNC Bank branch on April 30 and July 2, 2008, in
which Powell took $73,250 and 38,750.
On April 30, 2008, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Powell entered the PNC Bank armed with a handgun and wearing sunglasses and a face covering. Powell then forced three bank employees into the vault and ordered one of the tellers at gun point to open the day gate and a cash safe located in the vault. Powell then took approximately $73,250 from the cash safe and closed employees in the vault by shutting one
of the gates to the vault.
On July 2, 2008, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Powell and a second man entered the same PNC
Bank, again wearing face coverings and armed with handguns. The yet unidentified bank robber forced two bank employees into the vault, while Powell controlled other employees and customers, including a woman and her baby, in the lobby area at gunpoint. The two bank robbers fled with approximately $38,750.
Powell used some of the bank robbery proceeds to purchase a 2004 Lexus LS 400 sedan for $20,000 on April 30, 2008, and a 2005 GMC Yukon for $19,140 on June 25, 2008.
The jury also heard the testimony of a confidential informant (“CI”) who agreed to record conversations with Powell. The CI engaged in conversations with Powell in August 2008, during which Powell attempted to recruit the CI to do a bank robbery with him. Powell described committing bank robberies in the past and, more particularly, described the physical location of the PNC Bank in Glendora. Powell explained to the CI that the bank he previously robbed was “sweet” because of its location and the fact that three women open the bank in the morning. Powell stated that he put the employees in the vault and closed the door behind him which allowed him five to ten minutes to get away from the bank.

Last of Raleigh Hills bank robbers sentenced to prison
Judge said victims ‘went through hell’
The Beaverton Valley Times, Nov 7, 2009
The last of three Los Angeles men has been sentenced in the 2007 violent armed robbery of a Raleigh Hills U S Bank branch.
U.S. District Court Judge James Redden sentenced Trayvon Mike Betterson, 24, of Los Angeles on Nov. 3 to nearly nine years in federal prison for his role in the armed robbery at 8205 S.W. Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
During the investigation, police said they uncovered Crip gang ties to each of the three co-defendants: Betterson, Jonathan Longmire and Christopher Augustus Swanson.
Prosecutors said Betterson and Longmire entered the bank just after it opened on Sept. 5, 2007. The two forced several employees and customers to the ground and bound one with a plastic zip tie before asking an employee to open the vault, who refused claiming there was no money in the vault.
Longmire threatened the bank employees at gunpoint until Betterson forced a teller to open the cash drawers and took about $2,256, prosecutors said.
The get-away driver, Swanson, then entered the bank to see what was taking so long. When he saw himself on the surveillance monitors, prosecutors said he tried in vain to find and destroy the videotape.
The three escaped, but police officers quickly caught up to their vehicle. After a short car chase, the three attempted to run on foot, but were eventually captured.
On April 28, 30-year-old Swanson was sentenced to 100 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. On Oct. 27, Longmire, age 26, was sentenced to 110 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. On Nov. 3, Betterson, age 24, was sentenced to 105 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
In sentencing Betterson, Redden noted that the “bank robbery was the worst ever described in this court” and that “the people in the bank went through hell.”

Bank robber remains at large

November 6, 2009 - 01:40 p.m. EST
RIVERTON, Wyo. – A suspect wanted in connection with a possible armed robbery of a local bank is still at large. An employee of the US Bank on Broadway who was involved in the incident is OK.
Local law enforcement swarmed the bank two blocks off Main Street in Riverton at about 7:30 this morning. Two hours later they were leaving the scene, learning the suspect had fled.
Riverton police say the employee was confronted by a masked person who forced the employee inside and demanded money. When the suspect was told the money was locked up and not accessible, the suspect left.
Details about the suspect or possible weapon involved have been kept under wraps. The FBI has taken over the investigation because it has jurisdiction over banks.
Nearly the entire Riverton force was on scene, which is about 25 officers, assisted by sheriff’s deputies and state patrol troopers. Officers brandishing guns could be seen patrolling the area and also stationed in a cherry-picker type apparatus hanging above the bank.
Meanwhile, the students of the Lutheran school behind the bank were being gathered into the school’s basement as the school went to lockdown status. Some parents elected to keep their children at home once they learned what was happening.
The school re-opened as law enforcement dispersed and class continued with the students saying the pledge of allegiance and getting on with activities. But by mid-morning the school had closed for the day after school officials learned the suspect was still at large.

Teller killed, 2 others wounded in South Side heist
A second man pleaded guilty Thursday to his part in the holdup of a South Side bank in which a teller was fatally shot.
Alton Marshall, 32, admitted that he opened fire inside the bank, wounding a security guard and a bank customer, authorities said.
The lookout, Henry Bluford, 31, pleaded guilty last month.
Authorities allege that a third defendant, David Vance, 31, fired the shot that killed teller Tramaine Gibson.Marshall and Bluford have agreed to testify against Vance, court records show.
The robbery took place in May 2007 at the Illinois Service Federal Savings and Loan Bank at 87th Street and King Drive.
All three men were armed and wearing masks and gloves, according to the FBI. Marshall carried a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol. Vance allegedly jumped over the teller counter, pointed a semi-automatic pistol and demanded that Gibson open the safe, according to the court records.
Gibson couldn't open the safe, though, and Vance allegedly shot him in the lower back before taking a cash drawer containing $6,875, the records show.
Marshall's plea agreement calls for him to be sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Des Moines police took a man into custody today who twice last week allegedly robbed US Bank offices in the city.
Ray Edward Lee was arrested shortly after noon today, when detectives stopped a car, in which Lee was riding, around Southwest 7th and Tuttle streets. After a short foot chase to the 500 block of west Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, they caught up with him.
Lee is now in custody.
Before last week's bank robberies, officers had dealings with Lee in 1998, when he crouched in a car on the Fleur Drive bridge, smoking crack cocaine and holding money taken in a robbery at West Bank, 501 Locust St.
At that time, officers surrounded the car and captured Lee after a 5-hour standoff. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison for robbing two banks: the West Bank office and the Mercantile Bank at 604 Locust St.
He was identified Oct. 27 as the man who allegedly robbed the US Bank office in the skywalk, 555 Walnut St., and the next day as the man who robbed the US Bank office at 115 Euclid Ave.
Lee has been working in the Des Moines area and has been living in an apartment just outside Des Moines on the northwest side. People who know him said last week that he hadn't been back to the apartment and he quit showing up for work.
Lee allegedly passed notes at both US Bank locations. He did not display a weapon

WHAT EVER HAPPENS TO BANK ROBBERY VICTIMS?
Thousands of bank customers become innocent victims of Bank Robbers every year, forced to lay on the floor with a gun to their head, Personal property; purse, wallet. Before you sign a release of liability form handed to you by the bank manager (while you are still in shock) you should consider consulting a professional, accredited 'Crime Victim Attorney' for sound legal advice or your local Crime Victims Organization plus remember both State and Federal "Crime Victims Compensation Program", the police have these forms available for crime victims. Bank Manager Morning Prayer 11-3-09
SUBMITTED BY AMERICAN BANK MANAGER ASSOCIATION
Bank Manager's Morning prayer:
Please Dear Lord, I've worked for this bank 28 years, 14 hours a day, try to follow constant changes in company policy, saw my quarterly bonus cut 90%, lost my entire savings by being stockholder in this company and required to take a bullet for my Regional Manager, But PLEASE don't let them Rob my Bank until I go to lunch then we can blame my Assistant Manager.
Amen
Stop and think a minute; while you're reading these robbery up-dates there is a stolen car parked by your bank entrance, backed in, no license plates, engine running, with 3 armed gangsters with masks on their laps, smoking crack checking out the bank security measures and waiting for the armored truck to leave, then it's Trick or Treat Time all year 'round.
