Pre-dawn bank robbery is thwarted

FORT WAYNE – A Grabill Bank employee was forced inside the bank by two suspects about an hour before dawn Thursday, but the robbers took off empty-handed when they were unable to get any cash.

The clerk told police he was approached from behind in the parking lot at 5217 Merchandise Drive before 6:44 a.m. by a man using a Spanish accent, according to a written statement issued by Raquel Foster, Fort Wayne Police Department spokeswoman.

Police said two men fled on foot after the robbery attempt.

A weapon was not displayed, but the threat of a weapon was made, the statement said.

This robbery attempt remains under investigation by the North East Indiana Bank Robbery Task Force.

(WKBW release) The East Aurora Police Department said it is investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Thursday at 10:26 a.m. at the Five Star Bank at 211 Main Street.

According to a news release from East Aurora Police:

The suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding money. He then was given an unspecified amount of cash by the teller and fled out of the front entrance, traveling in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-feet-10 and 220 pounds, and wearing a full beard. He was wearing a black and white checkered flannel shirt or jacket, black pants, and a blue Buffalo Sabres logo baseball cap.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect in the photograph, or has any information regarding the robbery are asked to contact the East Aurora Police Department or Detective Rick Daminski at (716) 652-1111. They may also call the Department’s confidential tip line at 652-5404.

The suspect in a local bank robbery is now being linked to a string of crimes throughout Northwest Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.

The St. Joseph County Police have been working with the FBI to identify the man they say is responsible for several purse thefts, fraud and two other bank robberies in Lansing, Illinois and Munster, Indiana.

The photos in the FBI wanted poster are of the suspect and the vehicle believed to be used during the crimes.

The St. Joseph County Police got involved in the investigation after an armed robbery in the area on January 5. It happened at the Mutual Bank in the 23000 block of State Road 2.

Police say a man walked into the bank, said he had a weapon, and asked the teller for cash.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 40's, between 6' and 6' 2", with a medium build, and has a 'crater' type acne scar on his face.

He drives a newer model Nissan Maxima with Illinois plates and rear tail light damage.

Anyone with information about the suspect or his whereabouts is asked to call 235-9569 or crime stoppers at 288-STOP.

Bank robber believed to have struck twice

SANTEE — A Pacific Western bank was robbed Tuesday, and the thief is believed to be the same man who robbed the bank on last Tuesday, the FBI said.

In the latest heist, a man walked into the bank on Mission Gorge Road, east of Cuyamaca Street, about 1:35 p.m., approached a teller and made a verbal demand for money, said FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth. He fled with cash and was last seen walking south on Mission Gorge Road.

Witnesses said the robber was white, about 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He had a gray scruffy bear and was wearing a white T-shirt, navy blue jacket with a zipper and a baseball hat.

The Jan. 17 robbery occurred about 10:45 a.m. In that heist, the robber said he had a gun and told the teller he would shoot if he did not get money.

The thief was seen getting into the passenger side of a full-sized maroon pickup with no tailgate. The robber wore an orange shirt, a hooded black jacket, bluejeans and a black baseball cap.

A NEWLY-freed convict was arrested over a bank holdup in Oregon just hours after being released from prison.

Adam Parrish Ashe, from Eugene, Oregon, was back behind bars following a 10:00am local time heist at a Home Federal Bank branch in his hometown on Tuesday, The Register-Guard reported.

Ashe was arrested just three minutes after the robbery was reported, a police officer said.

He later confessed to stealing more than $US2000 ($1911) from the bank after handing a female teller a note saying that he was armed with a gun, according to a sworn affidavit filed in US District Court.

The 48-year-old had just been released from the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, Oregon, earlier on Tuesday morning and traveled back to Eugene, about 148 kilometres away, on the bus, the newspaper reported.

He was originally jailed in May 2009 after he broke into a post office and set a trash can on fire.

At the time, Ashe told cops he tried to burn the building down because he was angry at the government for sending troops to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ashe is being held at Lane County Jail and is expected to face a federal bank robbery charge

A man pointed a gun at a Far South Side teller during a “takeover” bank robbery yesterday remains at large, authorities said.

The FBI spokesman Ross Rice said the lone, masked suspect pointed a handgun at the U.S. Bank branch teller and “took over’’ the bank but did not injure anyone yesterday at 3501 E. 106^th St.

It happened at 2:36 p.m. Monday, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien.

Rice defined a “take over” robbery as one in which one or more suspects enter a bank armed with and brandishing weapons and take over the bank by ordering customers or employees to lie on the ground or stand in one area.

The suspect fled after taking an undisclosed amount of cash, O’Brien said.

The robber is 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-8, and was wearing a neoprene mask, according to the FBI. Rice said the suspect was not immediately believed to be responsible for any other ones.

Robert Aaron Williams is charged with robbing a branch of RBC Bank.

MOBILE, Alabama -- Mobile police arrested a 55-year-old Mobile man Monday and charged him with robbing the RBC Bank at U.S. 90 and Rangeline Road.

Robert Aaron Williams was taken into custody at a residence in Chickasaw and charged with first-degree robbery, a firearms violation and second-degree marijuana possession, officials said. The Saraland Police Department assisted in the arrest.

About 11:15 a.m. Monday, a man armed with a gun walked into the bank and demanded money from a teller. The robber left the bank in a blue-green mid-sized car.

Williams remained in Mobile County Metro Jail on Tuesday afternoon, records showed. He was scheduled for a bail hearing Wednesday, records indicated.

Easttown police and several K-9 units from the Chester County Sheriff's office are searching for a gunman who robbed the Citizen's Bank branch on Lancaster Ave at Waterloo Ave. in Devon just before 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Easttown Police Chief David Obzud says the suspect is a 6'4" tall black man who was wearing goggles and a hoodie. "He was covered from head to toe," Obzud tells Patch, meaning it was hard for witnesses inside the bank to get a more detailed description.

Willistown Police are assisting in the search. Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Easttown Police at 610-341-9780.

Bank Robbery Suspects in Surprise, AZ

Robbery is different from other forms of theft crimes – such as credit card theft, identity theft, shoplifting or stealing – because robbery involves the use of intimidation and force to take another person’s property. Bank employee shot during robbery at Guaranty Bank

Riverside news headline provided by the Riverside Police Department:

On September 25, 2009, at approximately 2:34 p.m., Riverside Police received a call of an armed robbery with a person shot at the Guaranty Bank located in the 5200 block of Arlington Avenue in the city of Riverside. Police officers from the Riverside Police Department and personnel from Riverside City Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to the business.

Based on statements provided by witnesses inside the bank, two adult male subjects had entered the bank armed with a handgun. During the suspects contact with bank personnel, an employee of the bank was shot by one of the suspects. The suspects exited the bank with an unknown amount of currency. The suspects got into a waiting vehicle that was occupied by a third person and fled the scene.

The bank employee was transported to a nearby local hospital and treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Members of the FBI, the Knoxville Police Dept., and the Knox Co. Sheriff's Office are asking the public for its help tracking down the man suspected of robbing a West Knoxville bank branch on Monday afternoon.

Authorities said the suspect robbed the First People's Bank, 7100 Kingston Pike, at gunpoint shortly before 2:30 p.m. They described the suspect as a thin, white man, between 35 and 45 years old, about 5'8" to 5'10" and approximately 140 to 150 lbs. He was wearing white shirt and a black sweater, jeans, and a black hat. He was reportedly carrying a Glock pistol

The FBI said a reward is being offered for information which leads to his arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 865-544-0751 or the KPD at 865-215-7212.

Search Continues for Armed Men After Armored Car Robbery

Elementary school placed on lock down during manhunt

Two people still on the run following an armored car robbery in Dallas Tuesday afternoon.

The robbery took place along the 8100-block of Lake June Road early Tuesday afternoon, Dallas police said, when the Dunbar Armored Car stopped to drop off cash at a check cashing business at 12:40 p.m.

While preparing to transfer the cash, a car pulled up and an armed man got out of the vehicle and ordered one of the armed guards to hand over the bag of cash.

The guard complied and the men then drove off in a Nissan Altima.

The getaway car, which turned out to be stolen, was found a short time later on the 1400-block of Conner Drive.

Officers began to search the area for the two men using K-9 units and the Dallas police helicopter. While the search continued through abandoned buildings and residential backyards, the Dallas Independent School District responded by locking down nearby John Quincy Adams Elementary School.

Though officers were spotted talking to two people during the course of the neighborhood search, they said they have made no arrests in connection with the heist and that they are actively looking for the men involved in the robbery.

Officials have not said how much cash was in the bag taken by the men.

The armored car employee was not injured in the robbery and he has been talking with police.

A man’s decapitated body was found on the side of a dirt road Friday morning west of the Tucson Mountains.

The hands and feet also had also been removed from the body discovered in the 2300 block of North Reservation Road and West Mile Wide Road. None of the missing body parts were found at the scene, Pima County sheriff’s Bureau Chief Rick Kastigar said.

The body was discovered by two men cutting grass along the road to feed their animals, he said.

The men flagged down Bureau of Land Management Rangers and border patrol agents in the area, but were released before deputies could question them, Kastigar said.

“We don’t know who they are or where they came from,” Kastigar said of pair who reported the discovery. “We don’t know their association to the crime.”

Other evidence was found at the scene but Kastigar could not provide details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Kastigar said that neither he nor the department’s veteran investigators have dealt with a case like this before.

“I can tell you that the crime of murder is not necessarily new to that part of the county,” Kastigar said. Homicide victims have been found in the remote area.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.

What: Beheading and partial dismemberment; hands and feet removed.

When: Estimates are that the body was not at the location more than 24 hours which would place the body dump on roughly Thursday 5 January 2012.

Where: On the side of a dirt road near Marana (Pima County) Arizona— 2300 block of North Reservation Road and West Mile Wide Road. This is a rural area North-West of Tucson with the interstate I-10, linking Phoenix and Tucson, about 15 miles to the East.

Why: The working assumption is that this is Mexican cartel related, though the homicide is still under investigation. The lead investigative agency is the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.

Tactical Analysis: The beheading and partial dismemberment of the adult male has all the trademarks of a Mexican cartel killing although this homicide will likely never be solved in the near term. No mention of tattoos on the body or personal items have been made in the news reports which would help to identify potential cartel and gang linkages.

None of the victim’s removed body parts have been located and investigating detectives said that the body also suffered other obvious signs of trauma. Lack of the head and other body parts at the body dump scene (potential crime scene unlikely) indicate that the perpetrators did not want the victim identified. The mention of ‘obvious signs of trauma’ is assumed to mean physical abuse and/or blunt force or penetrating trauma [eg. bladed weapon or gunshot(s)]. It is noted that the body was dumped by the side of a dirt road.

The body could have instead been buried in a shallow grave further away from the road which could mean (a). The perpetrators wanted the body found (possibly as a warning to others linked to their activities) or (b). Due to time or operational security (OPSEC) reasons they decided to leave the body out in the open. Past cartel TTPs (tactics, techniques and procedures) would suggest that the perpetrators wanted the body found to make a statement to other illicit narcotics and/or human trafficking smugglers.

A body dump to dispose of a kidnapping victim (for family extortion purposes) also has to be considered but would appear highly unlikely. This incident will now likely end the debate concerning whether beheadings have taken place in the Arizona desert— though technically the victim may have been killed indoors for OPSEC reasons. While no such Arizona desert beheadings had been identified prior to this incident this cartel violence spillover ‘firebreak’ now appears to have been crossed.

Significance: Beheading; Cartel Tactics; Cartel TTPs; Cross Border Violence.

Two people still on the run following an armored car robbery in Dallas Tuesday afternoon.

While preparing to transfer the cash, a car pulled up and an armed man got out of the vehicle and ordered one of the armed guards to hand over the bag of cash.

The guard complied and the men then drove off in a Nissan Altima.

The getaway car, which turned out to be stolen, was found a short time later on the 1400-block of Conner Drive.

Officials have not said how much cash was in the bag taken by the men.

The armored car employee was not injured in the robbery and he has been talking with police.

Only weeks after RAND took a controversial study of marijuana dispensary crime off the shelf following questions about its validity, a Fox 11 News report gives at least anecdotal evidence that some pot shops are dangerous places (especially for people who work there).

The station unearthed video after video (after the jump) of scary situations -- mostly armed takeover robberies, mostly in the San Fernando Valley.

... there have been 10 dispensary shootings in a section of the Valley that covers the LAPD's Devonshire and Topanga stations since 2008.

In one security video robbers enter a dispensary, push a female clerk around, stuff marijuana into a bag, hit a safe (for its marijuana) and last, but not least, empty the cash register.

(At least they have their priorities straight). Two of the robbers open fire on the door so they can get out.

LAPD Det. Robert Holcomb told the station that, increasingly, the crimes aren't reported, and the shops chose to handle the robberies with street justice via "organized crime, Mexican Mafia, cartels, Armenian mafia." (His words, not ours).

RAND ran into trouble recently when it published a study claiming that crime actually went down around dispensaries that had closed, indicating that dispensaries might actually lower crime in their neighborhoods, possibly as a result of their security teams.

But we were one of the first to question the research: It didn't mirror LAPD statistics, and it wasn't clear even to the city exactly which dispensaries had actually closed (many had been ordered to shut their doors but defied the city).

RAND pulled the study.

Holcomb says that although the number of dispensaries in Devonshire has been reduced to 3 from 60, they're still juicy targets for crime:

They put a big green cross on their door and they told everyone, including their customers, that there''s marijuana in there -- high quality, high grade -- and there's money in there.

Fabian Richard was arrested by police after stabbing another man. Police also found a large amount of packaged marijuana and plants inside Richard's home.

Crimes Nearby: RVC Bank Robbery, Five Pounds of Marijuana

A North Woodmere man was arrested after a bank robbery that occurred Friday morning in Rockville Centre.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 9:20 a.m. the defendant, Jamie Bernard, 22, entered the TD Bank at 290 Merrick Road and allegedly handed a demand note to a teller. After obtaining an undetermined amount of money, Bernard fled out the rear door into a municipal parking lot.

At 10:50 a.m., Bureau of Special Operations officers located Bernard, who was hiding behind a garage on S. Marion Place and placed him under arrest without incident, police said.

Man Arrested With More Than Five Pounds of Marijuana

A Baldmin man was arrested on Friday in Lynbrook for possessing more than five pounds of marijuana, according to the Nassau County Narcotics Squad.

Around 2:10 p.m., Haja Ramalanjaona, 26, of Baldwin, was allegedly observed in Lynbrook by Narcotics/Vice Bureau detectives, who were assisting the Lynbrook Police Department with an ongoing investigation, in possession of the drugs, police said.

Ramalanjaona was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the second degree.

Arrests:

Junior R. Suriel, 27, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 25 regarding an open case for an incident that reportedly occurred in the Nassau County Fifth Precinct.
Gregory Flagg, 25, of Lakeview, was arrested on Aug. 26 for disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental administration following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of 324 Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
Bryant S. Bethea, 22, of Rockville Centre, was arrested on Aug. 29 for petit larceny following a police investigation at CVS, located at 155 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre.
Yelena Fridrickson, 58, of Brooklyn, was arrested on Sept. 4 and charged with shoplifting assorted merchandise at Costco on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence.
Russell Moskowitz, 44, of Long Beach was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated at East Park Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard on Sept. 4.

Bradley Vercosa, 19, of Valley Stream, was arrested on Aug. 31 on Merrick Road and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Baldwin resident Haja Ramalanjaona, 26, was arrested on Sept. 2 on Broadway and charged with possession of marijuana.

On Sept. 5 at 7:15 p.m., Dominick Morda, 32, of Lynbrook, was arrested on Sunrise Hwy and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Armored car employee robbed, shot in SouthPark

SOUTHPARK -- Police are searching for the person who shot an armored car employee at the Foxcroft Shopping Center in SouthPark.Police said the incident involved a robbery of a Loomis armored car at a Wells Fargo ATM in the shopping center.The armored car had two employees in it when one of them got out to service the ATM, police said. That's when she was shot in the shoulder by a young black man, police said.The armored car was then on its way to the hospital when a 911 operator told them to pull over at the corner of Providence Road and Cavendish Court so the woman could receive medical attention. ATM Service Worker Shot in Armored Car Robbery in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WGHP)—

Police are investigating an armored car robbery that left an ATM service worker wounded Monday morning in Charlotte.

The robbery happened at an ATM in the Foxcroft Shopping Center in SouthPark around 8:45 a.m.

According to WSOCTV.com, police said one of two employees in the armored car stepped out to service the ATM when she was shot in the shoulder.

The driver of the armored car started toward the hospital after the robbey, but pulled over at the corner of Providence Road and Cavendish Court so nearby EMS could treat the woman's injury.

Nearby Charlotte Country Day School was temporarily locked down after the shooting.

It was not clear if any suspects are in custody.

A man robbed a Chase Bank branch on the Near Northwest Side in the Wicker Park neighborhood on Saturday afternoon.

The FBI believes he is a suspect in three other robberies which occurred in the last two months.

The robbery happened at 1:59 p.m. at a Chase Bank branch in the 1900 block of West Division Street, police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety said.

The man passed a bank employee a note demanding money and took off on foot after taking it, police said.

He was caught on surveillance cameras and appears to be a bearded man about 35 years old and 6-feet or 6-feet-1 wearing a black hat, white shirt and blue jeans.

He was not carrying a weapon and there were no injuries.

The police and FBI are investigating.

The first robbery happened on Nov. 29, 2011 at a North Community Bank branch, the second was at Chase Bank in Lincoln Park on December 7, 2011, and he is also a suspect in the Chase Bank in Downtown Chicago robbery according to the FBI.

A different man known as the “Wicker Park Bandit” allegedly robbed the same North Community Bank branch Dec. 20, 2011. There is no indication the two incidents are related or that the men work together.

A reward is being offered for information leading to both suspects, the FBI said.

– Investigators are searching for a man who robbed a Chase Bank branch on Monday.

According to the FBI, the man entered the bank located near the corner of South Powerline Road and West Atlantic Boulevard at about 9:30 a.m. and flashed a weapon at an employee.

He then demanded money.

Customer were in the bank at the time, but nobody was hurt, said FBI spokesman Jim Marshall.

A sheriff's helicopter was circling the area early Monday, while investigators with the FBIwere seen questioning bank employees.

The parking lot at the bank was closed, but all the other businesses inside the Palm Aire Marketplace shopping center remained open.

The FBI released photos of the suspect in hopes someone recognizes him.

Bank robber hits Comerica in Boca Raton

A Comerica Bank branch was held-up on Friday afternoon and police are searching for the man who escaped with an unknown amount of cash, according to investigators.

It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. when a "heavyset" man walked into the bank located at One South Federal Highway and passed a note to the teller. Once he got the cash, the suspect calmly walked out of the bank, police said.

The bank's surveillance cameras did take a photograph of the suspect.

He is described as heavyset, standing 5-foot-10, wearing a blue baseball cap, a light colored shirt and blue pants. No weapon was seen, police said.

Surprise Police looking for Armed Take-Over Bank Robbers

SURPRISE, AZ (KPHO) -

Three suspects robbed the Wells Fargo bank located at 19450 North Sunrise Boulevard just before 1 p.m. Saturday, according to officials.

Witnesses told police that one of the suspects demanded money from bank employees while pointing a handgun at them. The suspects fled from the bank with the stolen cash in a dark colored two door BMW.

Two of the suspects were described as adult males in their early twenties, with dark complexions, approximately 5'8" tall, weighing between 150 and 180 lbs. Both suspects were wearing long-sleeved shirts, beanies and sunglasses. The third suspect was described as a tall, white male who was also wearing a beanie and sunglasses.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this robbery to call the Surprise Police Department at 623.222.4000 or the investigating detective at 623.222.4147. The investigation is ongoing.

Surprise police are looking for help to find three men who robbed a Wells Fargo bank Saturday afternoon.

The men reportedly entered the bank at 19450 N. Sunrise Blvd. just before 1 p.m. Witnesses told police one of the men demanded money from bank employees while pointing a handgun at them, according to Surprise Police spokesman Sgt. Bert Anzini.

The men then fled in a dark-colored, two-door BMW, Anzini said.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Tucson police say they're looking for a young man who ordered bank employees and customers to get on the ground at gunpoint while robbing a bank.

Police say the man entered the Tucson federal Credit Union branch on Speedway Boulevard just before 1 p.m. Friday. He ordered everyone but the teller to get on the floor while demanding cash.

He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash before police could arrive.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The FBI is asking for your help to track down a bank robbery suspect.

The surveillance pictures were taken at the Washington Federal Bank near Litchfield and McDowell Roads on Wednesday.

The suspect handed a teller a note demanding money and asked for the branch manager. The suspect then escorted the manager and the rest of the bank's staff behind the teller counter and approached the teller.

After he was given a known amount of cash, he left the bank heading northbound, then in a westbound direction.

Authorities say a black handgun was shown during the robbery.

He's described as a white male, 6' 0" tall, 180 to 200 pounds, with a dark, scraggly beard and a medium complexion. He was wearing a gray beanie hat with dark trim, dark sunglasses, a gray long sleeve sweatshirt, blue jeans and dark shoes.

Phoenix police were inside the downtown branch of U.S. Bank Tuesday afternoon investigating an apparent robbery.

The incident occurred at about 1 p.m., and signs were posted on the door saying that the bank was closed because of an emergency.

Phoenix Police detectives were at the bank but refused comment, saying the incident was being investigated. The branch is located at 101 N. 1st Ave. in downtown Phoenix.

“We are cooperating with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies as they investigate this matter. U.S. Bank does not comment on ongoing criminal investigations,” said Nicole Garrison-Sprenger, vice president of corporate public relations for U.S. Bancorp.

A call to the Phoenix Police Department seeking more information was not immediately returned.

This is at least the second robbery in the Phoenix area in the past week. On Friday, a man robbed a Chase Bank at 103rd Avenue and Thunderdbird Road in Sun City. No one was hurt in that incident.

According to the FBI, Arizona had more bank robberies per capita last year than any other state.

*Arizona had 238 bank robberies in 2010*. That’s more than all but five states: California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida, all which also have far larger populations than Arizona.

Florida and Arizona had roughly the same number of bank robberies last year: 243 vs. 238. But Arizona’s population is 6.4 million, while Florida has 18.9 million residents.

Arizona has seen an increase in bank robberies since 2007, according to bank crime statistics kept by the FBI. Those show 166 bank robberies in 2006 and 2007, 236 in 2008, 267 in 2009 and 238 last year.

PEKIN, Ill. —

Pekin police believe they know who robbed the Herget Bank this week, and on Thursday sought the public’s help in catching him.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Casey W. Rice, 24, whom police say is a Pekin-area man but is considered homeless.

Rice is wanted on a charge of aggravated robbery for the heist that took place shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Herget branch at Broadway Street and Parkway Drive. He allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash after implying that he was armed. He never showed a weapon and no one was injured in the crime.

Pekin Deputy Police Chief Dennis Franks said the Peoria Police Department received information Wednesday night that points to Rice as the prime suspect. The robber walked from the bank within a minute after his entrance and entered a blue two-door sedan parked nearby that was last seen heading toward Broadway.

Franks said it “remains unverified” whether another person was in the car with the robber. The car has not yet been recovered, he said.

Rice is no stranger to the Tazewell County criminal court system. He was sentenced in 2008 to two years in prison for aggravated battery. Last June he received a six-month jail term, with credit for about two months served, on a misdemeanor battery charge.

Court records also show he was released from jail on Dec. 16 after serving 76 days for possession of a hypodermic syringe and marijuana. He listed a Morton address at the time of his arrest in that case.

Franks said anyone with information on Rice’s whereabouts is urged to call the police department at 346-3132 or CrimeStoppers at 347-9000 or 673-9000.

Mandeville bank robbery suspect captured

A Covington man robbed a Mandeville bank at gunpoint Friday afternoon, police said, then dodged two bullets fired by an officer as he fled and led police on an eight-mile chase before crashing into two cars and a ditch near Monteleone Junior High School. Jonathon David Laporte, 26, of West Fifth Avenue in Covington, was arrested 20 minutes after the robbery and taken by ambulance to Louisiana Medical Center & Heart Hospital with moderate injuries.

About 3:30 p.m. Friday, Laporte walked into Citizens Bank & Trust on East Causeway Approach, across from City Hall, wielding a handgun and demanding cash, according to Mandeville police Lt. Gerald Sticker. Laporte, who's been arrested at least a half-dozen times before, left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and climbed into his blue and tan Ford pickup in the parking lot. An officer with the Mandeville Police Department approached.

Sticker said Laporte charged at the officer in his pickup. The officer fired his pistol twice at the truck.

Laporte was not hit, nor did he aim his weapon or shoot at officers, Sticker said.

Laporte, whose license was suspended for prior drunken-driving arrests, left the bank's parking lot and, chased by a police unit, drove a mile and a half along East Causeway Approach and turned into the Old Golden Shores subdivision. He turned around in the subdivision, doubled back along East Causeway Approach, passed the bank, then headed east along U.S. 190. At least two more police units, including one from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, joined the chase, following Laporte for five miles. Sticker did not know how fast Laporte and the officers were driving.

Near Monteleone Junior High School, Laporte crashed into a 1997 Toyota 4Runner and a 2002 blue Chevrolet Corvette, tearing off the back bumper.

Laporte then slammed his truck into a ditch. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, with Mandeville police investigators in tow, and was expected to be kept overnight under guard.

The woman driving the Toyota and two small children in her car were taken by the 3rd Fire District to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Louisiana State Police. The driver and passenger of the Corvette were also transported with minor injuries.

Traffic was at a standstill for hours along U.S. 190 as police investigated the crash and hauled the smashed truck and Corvette off in wreckers.

State Police have charged Laporte with driving on a suspended license and reckless driving. The Mandeville Police Department has not yet filed charges, though it expects to book him with armed robbery, aggravated flight from an officer and attempted murder of a police officer when he is released from the hospital.

Laporte is already awaiting a March trial in his second driving-under-the-influence arrest and charges of speeding and driving on a suspended license. He has an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for an October 2009 hearing on three theft misdemeanors and convictions for driving under the influence, careless driving and reckless driving. He has also been arrested, though not prosecuted, in a hit-and-run in 2007, simple burglary in 2004, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in 2003, and domestic abuse and criminal damage to property in 2009.

Justin Eli Walden , 19, was arrested 1/10/12 by Monroe County Sheriff's Office for Possession of marijuana with intent. Mr. Walden was in possession of 4oz of marijuana. Mr. Walden is being held on an MDOC violation. No bond has been set as of yet for the current charge.

A 20-year-old Indiana County man was behind bars less than 24 hours after he allegedly robbed a Wal-Mart in White on Thursday.

Jesse James VanHorne of 158 Route 85, Plumville, was arrested by state police in Indiana on multiple criminal charges, including robbery and receiving stolen property.

Police received a tip that he was at a residence near Indiana. When he was arrested about 5:30 p.m. in a residence at 403 Millay Circle, White, police said he was carrying a small amount of marijuana.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Deana Kirkland, VanHorne told troopers when he was taken into custody that he robbed the store for money "for drugs."

State police allege VanHorne entered the store with a black scarf covering his face, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, and grabbed two bank bags from a customer service manager as she was counting receipts from two registers. VanHorne then fled the store on foot with about $2,600.

VanHorne was committed to the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday before Indiana District Judge Guy Haberl.

EDWARDSVILLE > Driver gets 7 years in fatal crash • Brittney Rhea Butler, 24, was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison for causing a traffic crash that killed a passenger in her car. Butler, of Wood River, pleaded guilty in November of aggravated driving under the influence and must serve at least 85 percent of her sentence. Jeffrey L. Davis, 35, of Edwardsville, was killed Oct. 22, 2010, when a 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood struck the rear of a truck as it slowed to make a left turn from Illinois Route 143 onto Bender Road, near Edwardsville. Butler suffered minor injuries. Police found no skid marks and said the car's speedometer stuck at 80 mph. Butler's blood-alcohol level was 0.162 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving. Associate Judge James Hackett also revoked probation sentences she had received after three previous convictions and sentenced her to four years in prison for cocaine possession and two terms of two years each for delivery of marijuana. Those sentences will be served concurrently with the aggravated DUI term.

WALSENBURG, Colo. -- A Colorado judge has ruled that charges from other states can be used in a case against a woman accused in a three-state crime spree. Lee Grace Dougherty has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted second-degree murder, assault and other charges related to a high-speed chase and what authorities say was a shootout before their capture Aug. 10. Her two-week trial is set for Feb. 21. Her two brothers are also facing charges. During a hearing Monday, the judge ruled that all events leading up to the woman's arrest can be introduced in trial.

The siblings are accused of robbing a bank in Georgia and shooting at police officers in Florida and Colorado.

The Crime Spree

The Dougherty siblings had been on the run since Aug. 2, when police said they fired 20 shots at a Florida police officer attempting to pull over their white Subaru Impreza for speeding."At first it was like, 'Wow, you know, they're shooting at me.' And then it turned to, 'I just want to catch them before they hurt anybody,'" Zephyrhills, Fla., police officer Kevin Widner said of the confrontation.Five hours later, the trio, wearing masks, robbed a bank in Valdosta, Ga., police said. One of them fired an AK-47 rifle into the ceiling as they walked through the front door, police said. Another was armed with some type of machine gun, while the third collected the cash, police said.Ryan Dougherty, a convicted sex offender, has 14 previous felonies on his record and was accused of sending hundreds of explicit text messages to an 11-year-old girl he had met online. Dylan Dougherty has arrests for marijuana possession.Lee Grace worked as a stripper at a club called Cheaters and had been arrested for five felonies, including battery and hit-and-run, and six misdemeanor offenses.

In brief: Police probe baby’s injuries

Police are investigating after a 3-month-old Spokane girl was treated for broken bones, skull fractures and bruises Friday.

Medics called police on Friday after treating the girl for injuries they believe were consistent with abuse, the Spokane Police Department said Monday.

The girl’s parents brought her in for an arm injury, but doctors determined the baby also had scratches and bruises on her face and forehead, as well as multiple bone fractures, including skull fractures, police said Monday. Medics also saw signs of previous injuries.

Major crimes detectives obtained a search warrant for the baby’s home in the 100 block of East Baldwin Avenue to look for evidence of the assault. A small amount of marijuana was discovered, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have notified Child Protective Services.

Williston police interview drug suspects about armed robbery

Williston police investigators will be interviewing three drug suspects this week about an armed robbery at an ATM on Friday night.

Sgt. James Bond said the hold-up happened at about 8 p.m. at the Capital City Bank ATM on U.S. 27. The drug suspects were arrested about a half-hour later, according to Bond, and had a gun in the car with them.

A woman told police she was robbed at gunpoint after using the ATM. Bond said the camera on the ATM photographed the woman and a gun-carrying black man dressed in a black hoodie, black pants and black shoes.

Bond said the man had a large nose with a high ridge and what appeared to be significant acne scars on both cheeks. The man also was carrying a handgun.

In addition to questioning the men being held on marijuana and cocaine charges, Bond said the victim would be talking to police again to help provide additional details about the incident.

BREAKING NEWS: EKU professor resigns after drug arrest

RICHMOND — An Eastern Kentucky University professor resigned Friday after being arrested on a drug charge.

Dr. Larry Belknap, a tenured professor in EKU's Department of Recreation and Park Administration, was arrested Thursday for trafficking in marijuana over five pounds. He was booked in the Madison County Detention Center at about 4:30 p.m. and was released Friday at about 11:30 a.m. on 10 percent of a $10,000 bond, according to jail records.

Belknap was arrested at his home on Phelps Road by officers of the Kentucky State Police Cannabis Suppression Branch, the governor's marijuana strike force, according to KSP spokesperson Trooper Paul Blanton.

Officers asked Belknap if they could look around his home, Blanton said, and the professor gave his consent.

Inside the home, officers discovered 8.6 pounds of marijuana in 27 individual plastic bags, Blanton said.

Marc Whitt, vice president of marketing and communications at EKU, said Friday afternoon that Belknap had been "relieved of his teaching responsibilities pending the resolution of this matter."

Later in the evening, however, Whitt said Belknap had voluntarily resigned from his position at the university.

Belknap has a doctorate degree in Recreation and Park Administration.

He taught undergraduate and graduate courses in outdoor recreation, park management, planning and design, research/evaluation, nature tourism and interpretive services, according to EKU's website.

PHOENIX — Law enforcement authorities have arrested over 70 people in raids that dismantled a narcotics trafficking network suspected of smuggling nearly $2 billion worth of drugs through Arizona's western desert, officials said on Monday.

The announcement in Phoenix caps a 17-month investigation culminating in a series of three "large-scale enforcement actions" tied to the probe, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Arizona Attorney General's Office and the Pinal County Sheriff's Department.

During last week's series of raids alone, authorities seized more than two tons of marijuana, 19 weapons and nearly $200,000 in cash.

Intelligence gathered as part of "Operation Pipeline Express" found the drug-smuggling ring was tied to Mexico's Sinaloan cartel and has been in existence for at least five years.

Authorities estimate the drug operation during that time smuggled more than 3.3 million pounds of marijuana, 20,000 pounds of cocaine and 10,000 pounds of heroin into the United States.

Illicit proceeds generated from those drugs were estimated at nearly $2 billion, authorities said.

Drugs were smuggled from Mexico into Arizona by car, plane, on foot, and through tunnels.

The cartel is headquartered in the northwestern state of Sinaloa on Mexico's Pacific coast, an area home to big marijuana and opium poppy plantations and considered the cradle of Mexican narcotics trafficking since the 1960s.

The cartel is believed to handle 65 percent of all drugs illegally transported to the United States, drug experts say.

Law enforcement officials are still looking for dozens of people in connection with the operation.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed in drug-related violence since Mexican President Felipe Calderon launched his military campaign against the cartels after he took office in late 2006.

The FBI is looking for the man responsible for a string of bank robberies committed in Los Angeles County.

The so-called "explosives threat" bandit has been linked to Tuesday's robbery of a Chase Bank in Venice, authorities said Wednesday.

The bank robber also hit a bank Tuesday in the Palms area, said Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Los Angeles field office. No further information on either robberies was immediately available.

The unidentified robber, who is wanted for multiple heists in Los Angeles County, got his name because he leaves a device in the bank that requires a bomb squad to respond to render the building safe, Eimiller said.

In a December 2011 press release, the FBI said the robber had recently struck banks in West Covina and West Hollywood. He has been described by witnesses as a white male, 35 to 45 years old, between 5-feet 10-inches and 6-feet tall, and weighing 175 to 190 pounds.

The release said the suspect left a device made of electronic components and wiring during each robbery and stated someone outside the bank would detonate it. He said he had a bomb during the West Covina robbery. A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad responded to both the West Covina and West Hollywood robberies.

The suspect made an oral demand and handed a note to the teller in both of those robberies and demanded as much as $20,000 in cash, according to the release.

The FBI said the suspect's notes indicated he had a friend monitoring a police frequency outside the bank and that he would make a call telling his friend to "press a button." One note said once his friend was contacted, the "establishment will not exist," the release said.

Two masked robbers with handguns held up a Salinas bank Thursday and fled in a stolen Lincoln Navigator, police said.

The robbery took place about 9:40 a.m. at a Chase Bank branch at 1596 Constitution Blvd, police said.

One of the robbers approached the counter and robbed the teller, while the other gunman ordered employees to the floor and covered them during the robbery, police said.

Both men ran out and got into a red Navigator parked in a handicapped spot that was driven by a third man. Police later found the vehicle and found it was reported stolen out of Sacramento.

An undetermined amount of cash was taken, police said.

ANTIOCH -- Police hope a surveillance photo will help them find a man who tried to rob a bank but ran away before he could take anything.

The man entered the Wells Fargo branch in the 1700 block of A Street about 5:40 p.m. and gave a teller a handwritten note demanding "all of the money." Police said no weapon was shown or threatened.

When the teller alerted her co-workers about the robbery attempt, the man ran outside into the adjacent neighborhood where he jumped fences, police said. Officers searched the area with the help of police dogs and a helicopter but did not find him.

The suspect was described as a black man in his mid-20s about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build, a short afro-type hairstyle and facial hair, waring a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and sunglasses.

Santa Monica Police Hunt for Bank Robber

January 19, 2012 -- Police are looking for a suspect who robbed a Santa Monica bank Tuesday afternoon and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect -- described as a Black male in his mid-40s -- entered the Chase Bank at 1333 4th Street shortly before 1:30 p.m., approached a teller and presented a note demanding money.

The suspect is described as 5'8" and heavyset with a "big belly," police said. He wearing green Dockers pants and a yellow shirt with green stripes and white tennis shoes.

Number of women robbing banks rising

HOUSTON -

What do Jesse James, John Dillinger and Butch Cassidy all have in common? They're all infamous bank robbers, and they're all men. But investigators are noticing a new trend in the Houston area -- Bonnie without Clyde.

Local 2 Investigates discovered the percentage of bank robberies committed by women in the Houston area shot up from 3 percent in 2010 to 8 percent in 2011.

"Most of the bank robberies are not very violent," former Austin Police Department Officer Tom Walsh said, who has worked on the FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force. "They're demand notes, and there's no violence at all."

It's how all of the women who robbed banks in the Houston area in 2011 carried out the crime.

Ashley Facundo, 18, slid the teller a note at the Wells Fargo in Pearland. Three days after KPRC Local 2 showed the pictures captured on the bank's surveillance cameras, Facundo was arrested.

Local 2 requested a jailhouse interview with her, but she declined.

Profilers speculate that women are driven to crime more out of need than greed, and that the downturn in the economy could explain all of the crimes as acts of desperation. Walsh doesn't buy that.

"If the economy goes bad, it's not just a few people that are suffering, it's a grand majority of the people that are suffering," he said. "And the grand majority of people are not out stealing and robbing banks."

We can't tell you their motive with any certainty.

The woman dubbed the rub-a-dub robber because of the shower cap and pajama bottoms she wore is still on the run. She is one of the first Houston-area female serial robbers. The FBI said she's responsible for at least four robberies since mid-November.

"Nine times out of 10, I would come out of the interview room and wonder, 'What were they thinking?'" said Walsh.

Overall, the total number of bank robberies in Houston and Harris County were down significantly from 2010 to 2011. There were 171 robberies in 2010, compared to 79 in 2011. But the number of those robberies committed by women was up.

IRVINE – A man authorities believe to be the "Gone Plaid" bandit robbed an Irvine bank branch with a knife Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed to be the second time the same robber targeted the East West Bank branch in the 5400 block of Walnut Avenue, FBI officials said.

The robber walked into the bank about 1 p.m. and handed a teller a note demanding cash, Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen said.

He fled on foot, displaying a knife to a security guard as he escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, Engen added.

Officers were unable to locate the robber during a search of the Arbor Village Shopping center and the surrounding area.

Authorities described the robber as a white male in his 20s or 30s with a thin build who was wearing blue pants, a dark jacket and a blue baseball cap during the holdup.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said investigators believe the robber was the "Gone Plaid" bandit, who struck at the same East West Bank branch May 16, 2011, and is also believed to be tied to holdups at two banks in Yorba Linda, one in Anaheim Hills and one in Mission Viejo.

The man earned his nickname by wearing plaid during some of the robberies.

In the previous incidents, he also handed tellers notes demanding cash, although during at least one robbery, he claimed to have been armed with a gun.

The "Gone Plaid" bandit was previously described as a white male in his mid-to-late 20s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, about 180 pounds with fair skin and brown eyes.

The Roswell police Department needs help identifying a bank robbery suspect who held up the Kroger Suntrust Bank on Holcomb Bridge yesterday.

Police say the suspect walked up to the banking counter and presented tellers a note demanding money on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Once the money was handed over to the suspect, bank staff told police the suspect left on foot and they were unable to give any further information about whether the suspect got into a vehicle or which direction he headed.

Roswell Police say the man was wearing a blue jacket, jeans and a Mitchell and Ness snapback Buffalo Sabres Hockey Team ball cap. He's described to be in his mid 40’s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing about 280 pounds.

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Osceola County Sheriff's detectives need the public's help in identifying three armed robbery suspects. The investigation began on January 17 at approximately 1:12 p.m. when deputies responded to Fifth Third Bank located at 9020 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with witnesses who indicated three armed suspects entered the bank and demanded everyone get on the ground. They made an employee go to the vault and demanded money at gunpoint. The suspects fled the area with an undisclosed amount of money. They drove away in a PT Cruiser heading south on Westside Drive. A short time later, deputies located the PT Cruiser at 8720 Rain Forest Place in Kissimmee. After further investigation, detectives discovered the vehicle was reported stolen to the Orlando Police Department.

One suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'6" or 5'7" tall, 150-160 lbs. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, gloves and a white shirt covering his face. The second suspect is described as a black male, 5'7" to 5'8" tall wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, gloves and a white shirt covering his face. The third suspect is described aas a black male with a medium build, approximately 20-25 years old, 6'0" tall. He was wearing all black clothing, black gloves and had a black shirt covering his face. The third suspect was armed with an assault rifle.

Police Investigating Bank Robbery at First Citizens Bank

A bank robbery occurred today at the First Citizens Bank, 3205 Plank Road.

The suspect entered the bank just prior to 1:30 pm and presented a note to the teller demanding cash. The suspect did not display a weapon. At one point the suspect jumped over the teller counter, but he fled from the bank without obtaining any cash and without injuring any employees.

The suspect was described as a white male in his early 20’s, approximately 5’6” and 120 pounds, and with some facial hair. He was wearing black Nike jogging pants with a white stripe, a black top with a Puma logo on it, and a dark colored ball cap with a red logo. The suspect wore gloves.

The suspect was last seen running in the direction of the Regal 14 Cinemas. Officers from the City and deputies from Spotsylvania County responded to the area immediately but have been unable to locate the suspect.

This is the second robbery at the First Citizens Bank within the past thirty days. The last robbery occurred on December 22 and the suspect in that incident is still at large.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials are searching for a suspect who robbed a South Florida bank.

FBI agents released several pictures of a suspected bank robber on Wednesday. The suspect is seen walking into an ATD Bank along Southeast 17th Street and 10th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.

According to officials, the man handed the teller a note asking for money, then grabbed the cash and took off.

Goodyear police are searching for a man suspected of robbing a bank near North Litchfield and West McDowell roads Wednesday afternoon.

A White or Hispanic bearded man wearing jeans and a gray sweatshirt is suspected of robbing a Washington Federal Savings branch around 3:50 p.m, Goodyear police officials said.

The man fled in a white Dodge pickup truck with an undisclosed amount of money, the officials said.

This is NOT a matter of National Security but a SOS bank 211 that occurs everyday in Arizona and will end up in the unsolved tray.

Arizona was one of most prolific states for bank robbery on a per capita basis. Arizona experienced 238 bank thefts in 2010. That's almost the same number as Florida, even though Arizona has about one-third the population.

Hostages freed after bank robbery ordeal

Police enter the John C. Calhoun Drive branch of South Carolina Bank and Trust through the employee entrance Tuesday afternoon. They were able to quickly subdue a suspected bank robber and free between 15 and 17 people held hostage.

What started out as a bank robbery attempt Tuesday turned into a hostage situation that left three injured, including the suspect.

A man who had not yet been identified Tuesday afternoon was taken into custody after officers simultaneously rushed several entrances to the South Carolina Bank and Trust on John C. Calhoun Drive.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., "Officers brought the situation to a conclusion and took the suspect into custody," Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Capt. Mike Adams said.

Authorities said one employee inside the bank and one ODPS officer received minor injuries when police subjugated the suspect following a 45-minute stand-off.

"He had a knife held to a teller's throat," Adams said. "But the injury was very, very minor."

Moments after officers rushed through the doors, several employees were hurriedly ushered out of the building. They were then taken to a location on the Doyle Street side of the facility.

Adams said the armed subject was then subdued and taken into custody.

"The suspect was injured when he was taken down by Orangeburg Department of Public Safety officers," Adams said. "But his injuries are minor and weren't life-threatening."

It's not clear what prompted officers to act at that particular moment.

However, authorities said a dialogue had been established with the subject after it was determined he had taken hostages and barricaded himself inside the bank. He reportedly held between 15 and 17 people hostage.

Nothing about the subject other than his gender has been released. As of late Tuesday, authorities were still trying to determine the man's identity.

Gene McConnell Jr., SCBT vice president and Orangeburg regional president, said he could not discuss the ongoing criminal investigation.

However, McConnell stated the employees' safe extraction from the situation was the most important thing.

"They are all safe," he said. "They are all OK."

Authorities said two knives were recovered from inside the bank. Police believe they belong to the suspect.

Adams said the initial call about the bank robbery came in at 4:58 p.m.

"Officers responded to the scene and received information from persons inside the bank that a man was barricaded inside with hostages," he said.

Allen Watford said he saw officers converge on the bank with their weapons drawn at about 5 p.m.

"They looked like ants going in there. They all had guns on," Watford said. "All of them had bulletproof vests on and their pistols drawn."

While negotiations went on with the subject, multiple officers carrying shotguns were positioned at strategic locations across the property.

The last Orangeburg bank to be robbed was the same SCBT. On Sept. 8, 2011, a man handed a teller a note demanding money before fleeing in a vehicle.

Less than an hour later, police swarmed a nearby motel where they apprehended the man they say committed the robbery.

Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - Orangeburg Public Safety officers have arrested a man they say robbed a bank and held over a dozen people hostage.

Officers say they got a call just before 5 p.m. Tuesday of an armed robbery in progress at the SC Bank and Trust in the 900 block of John C. Calhoun Drive.

Officers say they were told there were 15 hostages inside the bank at the time. According to police, the suspect held a weapon to the neck of one of the tellers.

After 45 minutes of talking to the suspect, police say they went inside and arrested the suspect. While he sustained minor injuries, no one else was hurt.

As of Tuesday night, police could not name the suspect because his identity had not been verified.

More information is expected to be released Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

SAN DIEGO -- A man who claimed to have a concealed gun threatened to shoot a teller on Tuesday while robbing a Santee bank.

The dark-haired, roughly 6-foot-tall man who appeared to be about 40, entered the Pacific West branch office in the 9900 block of Mission Gorge Road at about 10:45 a.m., approached a cashier and demanded money, according to the FBI.

After the bandit issued the threat, the teller handed over an undisclosed amount of money. The robber then walked out of the bank, got into the passenger side of a maroon full-sized pickup truck without a tailgate and was driven out of the area.The thief was wearing an orange button-down shirt, dark waist-length jacket and dark-colored baseball cap, the FBI reported. No weapon was seen.

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Metro Police are looking for a man who robbed a bank near Silverado Ranch Blvd. and Maryland Parkway on Friday the 13th.

The suspect entered the bank at 2:16 p.m. and approached the teller. He then handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller complied and the suspect fled the bank on foot, southbound through the parking lot.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 30- and 40-years-old, He is described as 6-foot to 6-foot-3, weighing about 190 to 200 pounds with blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a dark long sleeve shirt, dark pants, black shoes, glasses and a tan fedora hat.

Clarkstown police continue to look for clues as to who robbed Palisades Federal Credit Union off Route 59 last week, stealing $30,000. This is the second time since last spring the bank has been robbed. The man reportedly entered the bank around 9:30 a.m. using a silver handgun, and threatened the employees, telling them to lock the front door and demanded money. After taking the cash, the robber escaped out the back door. The surveillance camera captured the entire robbery on tape. Police still have no leads on the man's identity. The man is described as being around 5'6", black, about 180 pounds and has a big black beard. He is thought to be between 25 and 40. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and dark gray sweatpants. Police believe this man could be the same man who robbed the bank in 2011.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Three men are on the loose after a reported bank robbery in west Harris County Tuesday morning.

It happened at the Chase Bank at 1118 Fry Road near I-10. Just after the bank opened, investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office say two men with guns came in and told everyone to get down. The victims complied, and the robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

Witnesses say they were seen getting into a car with a third suspect behind the wheel.

At this point, we don't have a description of the suspects or the car, but we're working to gather those details and will post them as soon as they're available.

Pico Rivera bank heist linked to serial bandit

PICO RIVERA - A bank robbery carried out in Pico Rivera last week has been linked to a serial bandit already believed responsible for two other heists, authorities said.

The "Lift and Show Bandit" struck the Chase bank branch at 9125 E. Whittier Blvd. Friday afternoon, shortly before closing, authorities said.

He's also been tied to a Dec. 20, 2011 robbery at the Bank of America, 1520 E. Amar Road in West Covina, as well as a Dec. 4, 2011 robbery at a Chase bank at 925 N. Hacienda Blvd. in La Puente, according to FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

The bandit was given his name because of his tendency to lift his jacket during the robberies, exposing a black handgun, and threatening to shoot people, FBI officials said.

He's described as white, 25 to 34 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 160 to 185 pounds. No getaway car has been reported in connection with the crimes.

Meanwhile, authorities in Rowland Heights had yet to confirm whether a lanky man who robbed a bank branch in that city Saturday was the same serial bandit who robbed another Rowland Heights bank Jan. 11.

The "Stretch Bandit," who earned his name because of his estimated height of more than 6 feet 2 inches, was linked the Jan. 11 robbery at the Bank of the West, 19005 Colima Road, FBI officials said.

A robber bearing a similar description robbed a Citibank, 18847 Colima Road, Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

Saturday's robbery, however, has not been definitively identified as the

Stretch Bandit, whom authorities describe as being about 6 feet 3 inches tall and of thin build - about 190 pounds. He's 35 to 42 years old with blonde hair and blue eyes, and a and a white, 4-door Honda Accord with a tinted rear window and the first two license plate numbers of "3Z" has been spotted in connection with the crimes.

Sheriff's officials further described him as having blonde hair and blue eyes.

Though the Stretch Bandit has claimed to have a gun during the crimes, no weapon has been seen by witnesses, investigators said.

Another serial bandit's spree came to an end this month, as La Habra police and Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies chased down and captured a man dubbed the "Bubble Wrap Bandit" after a heist at the La Habra U.S. Bank branch Jan. 7.

The bandit, now identified as 34-year-old Francisco Gallegos of Cudahy, is suspected in five robberies spanning La Habra, La Mirada, Bell Gardens and South Gate, according to the FBI.

Deputies say a man robbed the Bank of America branch at on the 4500 block of U.S. 19 on Thursday. The call was received at 2:55 p.m.

According to deputies, the suspect implied he was armed with a weapon but did not show it. He fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Police say a gas station manager using an ATM to make a deposit was shot during an attempted robbery Monday afternoon.

The shooting occurred before 2 p.m. at the branch at 87th Street and Blue Ridge Boulevard. The woman was shot in the arm during the attempted robbery, police say.

Police Department spokesman Darin Snapp said a man approached the woman and demanded the money. She sped away but was struck by a bullet. She returned to her station and called the authorities.

She is expected to recover.

The hunt continues for the shooter.

The bank was closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Ferndale Police Search For Brazen Bank Robber

FERNDALE (WWJ) - Police in Ferndale are looking for tips into a brazen bank robbery that took place in broad daylight.

Around 4:30 Friday afternoon, police say a man walked into the Huntington Bank branch along Nine Mile Road, approached a bank teller and handed her a note that demanded money and implied he had a gun.

The teller gave the thief cash and he fled out of the back door and ran north through the parking lot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 40’s, about 5’10’ to 6’0”, thin build, wearing a blue jacket with a Superbowl Millennium label.

Police believe the suspect could have been involved in other area robberies. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anybody with information should contact the Ferndale Police at 248-541-3650 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.

There seems to be a sudden rise in bank robberies this year in San Diego County, but how do the numbers compare to last year? Brandi Powel investigates.

In two days San Diego County saw three bank robberies, two of which happened in the Scripps Ranch and Mira Mesa area, according to San Diego police and officials with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

No injuries were reported at any of the crimes and all three of the suspects are still at large, according to police.

The series of robberies started Friday at 4 p.m. when a man dressed in black shirt, blue shirt and black pants entered a Well Fargo at 10707 Cam Ruiz in Mira Mesa, according to Officer David Stafford of SDPD. He was dubbed the "Well-Dressed" bandit.

The suspect, said to be in his 50s, demanded cash from a bank teller and once he got it he fled on foot, Stafford said.

On Saturday two more bank heists were reported.

The first occurred at about 10:30 a.m. when a male suspect entered the California Coast Credit Union at 9825 Mira Mesa Blvd in Scripss Ranch armed with a black handgun and demanding cash, police said.

The suspect was able to flee the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and left the scene inside a newer model dark charcoal gray Toyota Corolla with no plates, along with a male driver, according to a media release.

Police said the suspect was in his 40s, around 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a bushy mustache and glasses.

Unlike Friday's suspect, the robber was dressed casually, wearing a black hooded raincoat, tan pants and white tennis shoes.

Saturday's second bank robbery happened at about 3:30 p.m. at a Chase Bank in the 3600 block of Midway Drive in Point Loma, police said.

In this incident a suspect walked up to a bank teller with a gun in his hand and demanded cash, according to police and the FBI.

The suspect reportedly had a cooler with him, which he used to stash the cash before fleeing the scene.

The suspect was said to be a white male in his 20s wearing a black hoodie, hat, white latex gloves and dark pants. He was last seen on Kemper St., according to a report.

Police said that at the moment there was no evidence that the crimes are connected.

SAN DIEGO -- A man with a handgun robbed a Point Loma Heights bank on Saturday and fled with a cooler of cash, San Diego police said.

The man walked up to a teller at the Chase Bank branch at 3609 Midway Drive just after 3 p.m. waved a black handgun in the air and demanded money, police said.

PUEBLO, Colo. -- Pueblo police are looking for a man they said robbed three banks in one week.The suspect, called "brazen" by police, has not concealed his face during the robberies. He's a thin white man who's about 5'5 with light hair, a scar on his face and an earring.Police said the man robbed Vectra Bank on Highway 50 just after 3 p.m. Friday. They said on Thursday he robbed Ent Federal Credit Union on 5th Street and on Monday, Sunflower Bank on Pueblo Boulevard. Bowie Walmart armored car robbery suspects at large

Prince George's County Police are on the lookout for three men who robbed an armored car at a Bowie shopping center on Monday morning.

Police say that the robbery occurred outside a Walmart at 3300 Crain Highway at about 8 a.m. ABC7's Brad Bell says that the suspects intercepted a Garda armored truck with the store's weekend receipts.

Authorities say that they're looking for three black males in ski masks who fled the scene in a white, 15-seat passenger van with signs on the side.

No one was injured in the robbery, police say. The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Shots fired in theft of Edgewater police cruiser, purported 'Ninja bandit' arrested

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: An Edgewater cop fired at least one shot at a thief who used a police cruiser as a getaway car after a group of officers interrupted an overnight jewelry store break-in involving an alleged member of the infamous "Ninja bandit" burglary crew, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

The police car was found intact in Teaneck, its engine still running, around 9:30 this morning -- some eight or so hours after two burglars and a lookout tried pulling off the heist by cutting through the wall of a vacant storefront, a source with direct knowledge of the incident said.

The thieves targeted Taline Jewelry, which is in the same River Road shopping center as the Binghampton Restaurant and Trader Joe's, just off Russell Avenue.

They apparently went in through the empty retail space and tried cutting their way through a common wall when Edgewater police interrupted the burglary sometime around 1:30 a.m., the source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Two of those believed involved, but a third apparently did an end run, slipped into an occupied cruiser and took off. Shots were fired, independent sources confirmed, but they couldn't say exactly how many.

No one was injured, they said.

Meanwhile, the bandit remained at large as of 7 p.m. tonight.

One of the two men arrested, 27-year-old Fadil Sadiku of New Hyde Park, Long Island, said he had food poisoning, although a law enforcement source with direct knowledge of the arrests said he was observed in the borough holding cell sticking his finger down his throat.

Both he and the other defendant, Nazmi Papraniku, 28, from Staten Island, were to be transferred to the Bergen County Jail as soon as Sadiku's health situation was resolved, the officer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Papraniku is of particular interest. Originally of Staten Island but now with a New Hyde Park address, as well, he was among several Albanians whom the NYPD identified as suspects in what Staten Island residents dubbed the “ninja burglaries” -- a series of home and business break-ins involving mostly jewelry in 2007 and 2008, records show.

The nickname came after a witness reported seeing one of the thieves in his kitchen dressed like a ninja and carrying nunchucks, a claim police at the time doubted.

Papraniku pleaded guilty to unrelated attempted burglary charge on Staten Island and was supposed to have been deported, according to public records.

An associate of his, 28-year-old Bashkim Capa, was arrested at the time, as well, but the case was dropped for lack of evidence.

A Municipal Court judge in Edgewater today ordered Papranikua and Sadiku held on $50,000 bail each, charged with burglary, resisting arrest, criminal arrest and possession of burglar tools.

Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino's Bureau of Criminal Identification checked the recovered cruiser for fingerprints or other identifying evidence. Ballistics tests were expected on the service weapon.

Second bank robbery reported in Rowland Heights

ROWLAND HEIGHTS - For the second time in less than a week, a man using a note robbed a bank along Colima Road, authorities said Monday.

Sgt. Angie Wilkinson of the sheriff's Walnut station said a man walked into the Citibank at 18847 Colima Road about 12:15 p.m. Saturday and handed the teller a note saying he had a gun and demanding money.

Wilkinson said the teller gave the man some money and he fled out of sight. No vehicle was seen leaving the area.

The robber was described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing at blue hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants at the time.

The incident marked the second bank robbery in Rowland Heights last week.

On Wednesday, a man dubbed the “Stretch Bandit” walked into the Bank of the West Branch at 19005 Colima Road and handed the teller a note demanding money. He escaped with about a $1,000.

FBI officials believe the man robbed the same branch on July 12. He is also suspected of robbing a U.S. Bank branch in Hacienda Heights on July 6.

The robber in Wednesday's incident was described as a white man in his mid 30s with blond hair and blue eyes, about 6 feet 3 inches tall and 185 pounds. He was wearing a tan jacket over a blue hooded sweathshirt.

While Saturday's robbery bears strong similarities to those committed by the Stretch Bandit and occurred less than a mile from Wednesday's robbery, authorities could not immediately

confirm if they are connected.

Akron Police quickly nab bank robbery suspect

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

A bank robber in Akron didn't get too far before police were hot on his trail. Around 1:30 Friday afternoon, the PNC Bank, located at 1727 Goodyear Boulevard, was robbed by a male wearing a ski mask and armed with a black handgun.

The suspect fled westbound from the bank with an unreported amount of cash and got into a truck at Hillside Terrace and Ottawa Street.

But officers were right on his trail and stopped the vehicle. They located the suspect and money inside of the truck. The man was immediately taken into custody without incident.

Officers then located a ski mask and firearm at the rear of a business on Goodyear Boulevard.

The suspect, identified as Benjamin Gandy, 22, of Akron will be charged with robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail.

The driver of the getaway truck, Angel Zaragoza Castillo, 21, of Cuyahoga Falls, was also arrested. He was charged with Complicity to Commit Robbery and booked into the Summit County Jail.
